An application package submitted to the University of Louisville Law School Admissions Office must include:
-
Signed and dated application form
-
Non-refundable $50 application fee, payable by check or money order to the University of Louisville. Fee Waivers are available and are automatically granted to applicants that have received a waiver via law services for the year the waiver was granted.
-
Personal statement of no more than three double-spaced pages.
The personal statement is useful in making admissions decisions as well as awarding merit scholarships. The personal statement may include the applicant’s reasons for seeking a legal education as well as information on extracurricular activities, community service, awards and honors, employment, leadership positions and any other experiences or qualifications that might distinguish the applicant from others in the applicant pool. -
All applicants are required to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). For the best chance of consideration, it is recommended that the LSAT be taken no later than February. LSAT scores from exams taken in June prior to the first semester of enrollment will be considered, but due to the lateness of the application in the admissions season, it is likely that few seats may remain available. Applicants hoping to gain admission based on a June test result should be aware that they will not have the same chance for success that they might have had with an earlier review. More information on the LSAT is available here or on the LSAC website.
Applications are not considered complete and ready for review until the law school receives the hard copy of the LSDAS report.
Optional, but strongly encouraged:
-
Letters of recommendation
Letters from individuals who have knowledge of the applicant’s personal qualifications and ability to succeed in a competitive professional program, such as professors, academic advisers and employers, are helpful in evaluating the application. Letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the law school admissions office by the writer or submitted via the LSDAS report. Applications ready for review will not be held for letters of recommendation. No recommendations will be considered after an admission decision has been made on an application. -
