Students who have attended another ABA-accredited law school and performed well may apply for transfer admission to the University of Louisville Law School.
Transfer students must have completed the first year of study, demonstrated high scholastic achievement, and must meet the entrance requirements of the Law School. Ordinarily they must be in the upper one-fourth of the class at their previous law school to be admitted. Transfer applicants accepted to the law school may transfer 30 to 45 hours of credit from their previous institution. A student who has been dismissed from another law school for academic failure or for misconduct will not be considered for transfer.
On a limited basis, students from other ABA-accredited law schools also may attend classes at the Law School as visiting students, for a designated period of time. Visiting students must be in good standing, and their home institutions must agree to accept credits earned at the University of Louisville.
Admission Decisions
All transfer and visiting applications are reviewed by the Assistant Dean for Student Life.
Upon acceptance
Upon acceptance, transfers are required to reserve his or her place in the entering class with a tuition seat deposit, which is applied toward tuition for the first semester. The seat deposit (for the fall term) is refundable if a written request for refund is received by June 1 (please note that most decisions are not made at this time). Visiting students are asked to submit a signed letter of intent.
Admitted transfer students are also required to submit two official degree showing transcripts and two passport-sized photographs. Visiting students are required to submit two passport-sized photographs. More information is given at the time of admission.
