The Louisville Bar Association is a very close friend and partner of the Law School. The LBA won the Dean's Service Award in 2005 and has worked tirelessly with the Law School to promote the well-being of lawyers and the greater public's interest in law and the administration of justice.
I am therefore pleased to promote two upcoming LBA events and to commend them to the attention of the Law School community:
- LBA Member Appreciation Fair
On Thursday, November 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., join the LBA for free lunch, gourmet coffee, and door prizes at LBA headquarters, 600 West Main Street, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40202.
- Love of the Law and the Law of Love
Louisville attorneys and civic leaders will present personal epiphanies and powerful stories on Thursday, December 6, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (with reception to follow), at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 North Sixth Street, Louisville, KY 40202. Feature speakers include:
- The Rev. Kevin Crosby
- Rabbi Joe Rapport
- Deborah Barnes-Byers
- Eileen Blanton
- Joe Gutmann
- Olu Stevens
- Lee Thomas Jr.
- Donald Vish
This program, unprecedented in the LBA's history, will show Louisville attorneys at their most generous. Each speaker will offer a personal, powerful story about a life-changing event or incident; some are sharing their stories publicly for the first time. For example, Mr. Thomas was one of the first American soldiers to enter Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped. What he saw there made him a committed peace activist.
There will be video clips, live music by Harry Pickens, and a vocal performance by Tim King. The $50 registration fee includes a family membership to the Ali Center.
