Commitment to Service
Student organizations at the law school reflect our students' commitment to public service. Each spring at our Community Service Day, the student members of various organizations bring their compassion, commitment and skills to improve Louisville and the lives of people living here. Also, the incoming first-year class of 2009 had the opportunity to participate in Orientation 2009 Community Service Day. The volunteer work included litter pick-up in the park, serving meals at a shelter, painting walls at an animal rescue center, assembling care baskets, working at Habitat for Humanity and much more.
The total number of hours that the graduating class of 2009 contributed to placements in the Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service Program was 4,563. The Public Service Program requires all law students to complete a minimum of 30 hours. Nine of the May 2009 graduates reported working at least 50 hours and the recipient of the Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service award worked 300 hours.
