several years; the writing requirement and how to meet it; how the bar exam has
an impact on your course selection; the paperwork you should have filled out
before the start of registration; FAQs; and the little glitches that can
delay your registration.  There will be ample time for questions.

first year faculty provide registration advice from an academic

Professor Jones courageously spoke out regarding his personal struggles
with mental illness by writing an opinion piece for the Courier-Journal

He will speak to law students, faculty, and LBA Health Law section
members about his experiences. A question and answer period will
follow.

Please understand that attendance at this event in no
way implies that you personally have a mental health issue. We are
simply trying to bring attention to the stigma and stereotypes that
still pervade our culture's attitudes about these issues. If you have

The Kentucky Court of Appeals will hold oral arguments in the Allen Courtroom on March 19, 2008, at 9:30, 10:15
and 11:00 a.m. Students are invited to attend the sessions.

Following oral arguments, the judges will hold a question and answer
session open to law students. The Q&A is a brown bag lunch and will be held in the Cox Lounge.

The Central High School Partnership, the Public Service
Program, and BLSA will co-sponsor a Lunch ‘n' Learn on Thursday, March 20, from
noon until 1:00 p.m. in room 175. This law student involvement interest session
will cover the Street Law Program and the Marshall/Brennan Fellowship Program.

Street Law is an innovative and exciting way to teach Central High School students about a variety of
issues in the law and earn public service credit.

The Marshall/Brennan Fellowship Program is an exciting new
law curriculum option, which will allow law students to teach Central High School
students about constitutional law and receive academic credit.

Both offerings will be available next year. Joe Gutmann from
Central High School, Professor Sam Marcosson,
and Mary Jo Gleason will be presenting information on these programs.

Please join us and learn more about these exciting new
opportunities.

Pizza will be provided courtesy of the Public Service
Program.

Please donate hygiene items to benefit Project Women.  Project Women provides housing to single mothers who are experiencing homelessness.  Place your items in the bins in the lobby.  Every person who donates will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate.  One person from every class will win!!

SHLA is co-sponsoring a noon-hour program for the school with the Kentucky & Indiana Office of Bar Examiners to discuss the policies, concerns, and controversies involved with the mental health disclosures required in bar applications. This event is for the law school community at large, but Prof. Jones has asked us to help promote it. First and second year students in particular should attend to learn about the types of things the bar applications want disclosed.

Land Use Policy. The Lecture will be held
Thursday, March 27, 2008, at 6:00 pm, in the Cox Lounge of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.

The Lecture will be given by Professor Julian Conrad
Juergensmeyer
on the topic, "Infrastructure and the Law: The Evolution of
Developer Funding of Infrastructure Requirements." Professor Juergensmeyer is the Ben F. Johnson
Chair in Law at the Georgia State University College of Law, Co-Director of the
Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth, and Adjunct Professor
of City and Regional Planning at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

A reception will follow the lecture. No RSVP for the lecture or the reception is
needed. The Lecture and reception are
funded by the Herbert Boehl Fund and the Kentucky Research Challenge Trust Fund
(Bucks for Brains).

On April 5, 2008, the law school community will
embark upon its first annual day of collective public service. The initiative
arose from student input into the university's strategic planning process.
The purpose of this event is to highlight the law school's commitment to
community service, provide significant services, have fun, and make new
acquaintances in our law school community.

Participants in the planning process identified three focus
areas:

1) Animal
Rights & Animal Issues

2) Women,
Children, Homeless, & the Underserved

3) Environmental
Issues

All students, staff and faculty are encouraged to
participate by contributing donated items to one of the organizations listed
below or to volunteer their time to one of the designated projects.

Celebrate

To kick off the event, we'll be hosting a complimentary
continental style breakfast in the Mosaic Lobby at 10 AM on Saturday, April 5.
Coffee, juice, and pastries will be provided. Those present will be eligible to
win one of the many door prizes!

 

The kick-off party will begin at 10 AM. Each project will end no later than 5 PM.
