This year marks the 27th anniversary of Banned Books Week, which was created by the American Library Association to remind Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. It celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them. In celebration of this tradition, members of the campus community will be reading
from their favorite banned books at the old entrance to Ekstrom Library Monday
(9/29) to Friday (10/3) from 11 AM to 1:15 PM. Law librarian, Virginia Smith, and Rebecca Simms (3L) will read from Aristophane's Lysistrata on Friday at 11 AM.
