First Day of Kentucky Supreme Court Oral Arguments

The Supreme Court of Kentucky will hear oral arguments in the Allen
Courtroom from
9:00 AM to noon. All students are welcome to observe. For
a schedule with the cases to be heard and specific times, click here.

Following the arguments on Wednesday, there will be a short Q&A session in the courtroom after which all law students are invited to have lunch and further discussion with the justices in the Cox Lounge. Pizza will be served, but bring a beverage with you.

Please join the Brandeis Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for Dinner and a Movie at the Red Barn, September 10th. Eleni Vlachos will be screening her documentary "Seeing Through The Fence." Through a series of humorous and poignant interviews conducted across the US and in Greece with 'random people,' the documentarian's family, and activists, "Seeing Through the Fence" explores the role of food in modern society and our connection, or lack of connection, with both the processes and animals from which our food originates. A question and answer session with the filmmaker will follow the film. A vegan pasta dinner complete with garlic bread, drink and dessert will be served while food lasts. United States Constitution, preamble

[W]e must never forget that it is a constitution we are expounding.

The United States Constitution is not only the basic law of the United States. It has also inspired politicians, philosophers, and ordinary people around the world. Scholars have devoted intense attention to the Constitution, its interpretation by the Supreme Court of the United States, and its impact on the American people.

Constitutional law forms an important part of the Law School's curriculum and research agenda. University of Louisville faculty members have devoted considerable attention to the Constitution, its interpretation, and its social meaning. Lawyers with diverse practices and specializations share a background in constitutional law, which in turn unites the practicing bar in a common civil culture based on the Constitution and its role in American history and politics.

The Law School therefore takes great pride in contributing to the University of Louisville's annual commemoration of Constitution Day. This year's program consists of two videos presenting the views of Law School faculty on recent Supreme Court decisions.

In addition, we invite students, graduates, and friends of the Law School to treat this page as a guide to constitutional law. The resources section of this page includes a 21-question constitutional scavenger hunt and a photo gallery depicting constitutional controversies throughout American history.

Finally, we are pleased to provide an archive of the Law School's commemoration of Constitution Day 2007.

Keith Boykin will speak to Professor Marcosson's class in the afternoon, prior to his keynote address at Ekstrom Library's Chao Auditorium that evening. The law school is a major sponsor of Mr. Boykin's to UofL, which will kick-off Pride Week (October 6-11). Professor Marcosson and law student, James Taylor, will moderate the evening program. The Kentucky Fairness Alliance will host a reception afterwards in the lobby outside the auditorium. The entire law school community is welcome to attend both events.

The Fall 2008 Boehl Distinguished Lecture in Land Use Policy will be held Monday, October 6, at 6:00 pm in Room 275 of the Law School, with a reception in the Cox Lounge immediately following the lecture.

The lecture and reception are free and open to the public (no RSVP). The Lecture will be given by Vicki Been, who is the Elihu Root Professor of Law, Professor of Public Policy, and Director of the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University.
