Professor Nowka is currently researching issues relating to Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. Recent publications inclulde a student handbook for secured transactions and articles examining the 2010 Amendments to Article 9 and purchase-money security interests in consumer goods.
He served as a member of the Kentucky Legislature's U.C.C. Study Commission and Drafting Committee on Revised Article 9, and has spoken on Revised Article 9 seminars sponsored by the Kentucky Bankers Association, the University of Kentucky College of Law, and the Louisville Bar Association.
His honors include the University of Louisville Distinguished University Teacher Award, the University of Louisville's Provost's Award for Exemplary Advising, and the Law Alumni/ae Excellence in Teaching Award.Outside the law school, Professor Nowka engages in activities that focus on service to the community. He is a long-time board member of the Legal Aid Society; previously serving as board chair. He works with Project Warm to winterize homes of the elderly, disabled, or persons of limited income.
