Professor Stenger taught in the School of Religion of the University of Iowa before joining the faculty of the Brandeis School of Law. He earned a master's degree in Philosophy (with specialization in Ethics) from Saint Thomas College, a doctorate in Theology from The Catholic University of America, and a J.D. from the College of Law of the University of Iowa. At Brandeis he has taught Torts; Property; Decedents' Estates and Trusts; Conflict of Laws; History of Law; Law, Language and Ethics; Introduction to Legal Study; and Legal Method. Currently, he is teaching Domestic Relations, Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, and seminars in Medicine, Bioethics and Law and Domestic Violence.
Professor Stenger has published articles on constitutional law, decedents' estates, family law, bioethics, and legal education. His most recent publications are "Embryos, Fetuses and Babies: Treated as Persons and Treated with Respect," II Journal of Health and Biomedical Law, 2006, and "Privacy, Reproduction and Advancing Technology" [with Russ Weaver], Family and The Law in the 21st Century-Festschrift in Honor of Koji Ono, 2006.
Professor Stenger has been active in faculty governance as a member, vicechair and chair of the Faculty Senate, Faculty Trustee, Faculty Director of the Board of Directors of the University of Louisville Athletic Association, and as a member of many university-wide committees, including the Human Studies Committee (University of Louisville IRB) and the University of Louisville Hospital Ethics Committee. He also serves on the Matrimonial Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Louisville.
