For the past several years she has chaired the law school’s award-winning Diversity Committee. She has represented the law school on a number of university boards and committees, including the Athletic Association Board of Directors (6 years), the Faculty Senate Planning & Budget Committee (10 years), the President’s Planning Advisory Committee (2 years), and now serves on the President’s Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality. From 2002-2004 she served as Chair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women, after serving a 2-year term as Vice Chair. During 2006-2007 she served on the Provost’s Strategic Planning Steering Committee which developed The 2020 Plan.
Ms. Harris was elected to Beta Phi Mu Honor Society in 1981 and belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Association of Law Libraries and the Kentucky Library Association, and is serving a 2-year term as editor of the KLA’s journal, Kentucky Libraries. She is one of the founding organizers of the Kentucky Women’s Book Festival and is a founding member of the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra, which has performed at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, the Brown Theatre, and the Clifton Center in Louisville, and in festivals in many American and European cities.
Prof. Harris received the 1999 President’s Distinguished Service Award for Service to the University and the Community, the 2001 Brandeis Faculty Diversity Award, the 2006 President’s Distinguished Faculty Award for Service to the University, and was named a U of L “Champion 4 Her” in 2008
