Justin Brown Wins KBA Student Writing Competition
Congratulations to Justin Brown, 3L, on winning the 2013 KBA Student Writing Award!
My submission is titled “Wage Theft in the Food Service Industry: How Can Kentucky Fix it?” The article explores what activities constitute Wage Theft, how Wage Theft is especially pervasive in the food service industry, and how the current law in Kentucky inadequately addresses the problem.
The analysis begins with a survey of the current wage and hour laws and their enforcement mechanisms at both the state and federal level, followed by an examination of potential workable solutions that have been enacted in other jurisdictions. Taking all relevant information into consideration, it concludes with a proposed solution to most efficiently address Wage Theft in Kentucky.
I was honored to learn that my article had been selected as the winning entry for such a prestigious award.
