Wireless Network Security
(a) Microsoft Windows Computers
(i) In order to protect the integrity of the University of Louisville's wireless network and computers accessing that network, including the student's own computer, any student wanting access to the University of Louisville's wireless network, including that part of the network installed in the School of Law, must use the Odyssey wireless client, which uses the UofL ULink user name and password for authentication.
(ii) To obtain the Odyssey wireless client, the student must also install, or allow a School of Law IT staff person to install, the University-distributed version of Symantec Antivirus. In many cases, this will require that the student uninstall, or allow a School of Law IT staff person to uninstall, other antivirus and/or antispyware applications previously installed on the student's computer.
(b) Apple Macintosh Computers
(i) The Odyssey wireless client is only available for computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. However, Apple Macintosh computers running OS 10.3 or later can also access the wireless network using network tools bundled with the operating system. The Law School and IT staff make no representations or guarantees that this functionality will continue to be included in future versions of the Mac OS.
(ii) To obtain access to the University's wireless network using Mac OS X, the student must also install, or allow a School of Law IT staff person to install, the University-distributed version of Symantec Antivirus for Mac. In some cases, this may require that the student uninstall, or allow a School of Law IT staff person to uninstall, other antivirus and/or antispyware applications previously installed on the student's computer.
