Bio:
Guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Alcoholic. Master litigator.
Born Franklin Benjamin Galvin, on November 27, 1942, in Beantown, Mass. Galvin began his career by playing in a number of bands in his youth. Even as a law student, Galvin found time for music, creating a band named The King Casuals.
After leaving the practice of law, Galvin pursued his music, working as a session musician and playing backup for such performers as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, and the Isley Brothers. He also formed a group of his own called Frankie and the Blue Flames, which played gigs around Boston's South Boston neighborhood. In mid-1966, Galvin met Chet Jesterson, a former member of the Animals, a successful rock group, who became his manager. Jesterton convinced Galvin to go to Beaumont Sur Mer where he joined forces with musicians Freddy Benson and Janet Colgate to create The Frank Galvin Experience.
Released in 1967, the band's first single, “Yo Jose,” was an instant smash in France, and soon followed by such other hits as “Teal Smoke” and “The Wind Screamed Harry.”
Quickly becoming a rock music superstar, Galvin scored again with his second album, Nuts and Ham (1968). His final album as part of the Frank Galvin Experience, Toejam Blues (1968) was released and featured the hit “All Along the Watchtower,” which was written by Bob Dylan. The band continued to tour until it split up in 1969.
Galvin tried his luck with another group, forming Bands of Gypsy Tears in late 1969 with his lawyer buddy Mickey Morrissey and drummer Flipper. The band never really took off, and Galvin resigned himself to slogging it out in the Boston courthouses where he still can be seen roaming the halls today, drunk and penniless.
