FORECLOSURE PROCEDURES SEMINAR on April 22nd -- five law students can attend for FREE

Sterling Education Services is a non-profit continuing legal education company that conducts CLE seminars across the nation. They are holding a Foreclosure Procedures seminar here in Louisville oApril 22nd and are offering five law students complimentary passes to this seminar as an introduction to their company.
Students get a day-long overview of a particular aspect of the law, a seminar manual, and they also get an opportunity to network with practicing attorneys. This is a win-win situation. This offer has been sent to all of the law schools in our area. The five free passes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis regardless of the school attended. Intellectual Property Job Fairs -- Application Deadlines are Fast Approaching

THIS SUMMER, IN CHICAGO AND ATLANTA, Louisville Law students have the opportunity to participate in IP job fairs.  Your Registration Forms and Checks must be given to Jerie or Debra in the Career Services Office according to the following calendar:

Monday, March 17: Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair in Atlanta (7/29) $25.

Tuesday, March 25: Loyola University Chicago School of Law Patent law Interview Program (7/31 & 8/1) $35.

REGISTRATION FORMS & INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTH EVENTS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE STUDENT MAILROOM OR FROM JERIE OR DEBRA.

LBA Student Membership Applications Are Still Available Here in the Law School!

Even if you didn't join during the recent Louisville Bar Association's Student Membership Drive, there is still time. Please remember all of the great benefits associated with this membership:

As a student member, you have the opportunity to attend any CLEs of your choice absolutely free of charge. (Attorneys pay upwards of $100.00-$300.00 for these seminars and you can attend for free.)

Membership includes a 2007-2008 Pictorial Roster with information about every attorney who is a member of the Louisville Bar. In addition, student members will be listed in the publication as well.

Membership includes a year long subscription to the Bar Briefs, the monthly publication of the Louisville Bar Association.

Becoming a Law Student Member of the Louisville Bar Association will serve as an invaluable networking opportunity. You will be able to interact with some of Louisville's best Attorneys up close and personal!

Membership is only $15.00 which is amazing! This price was intentionally set in order to make this membership more affordable to law students.

Applications are still available and may be picked up in Jerie Torbeck's office or in the Student Mailroom.

To save a stamp and the hassles of mailing you may leave your completed application and payment in Dean Torbecks office and they will be personally delivered to the LBA.

Opportunities in Solo/Small Firms

Still trying to figure out what to do this summer?  Attend this lunch 'n learn on Thursday, March 6, over the noon hour in room #175.  Tim Napier, chair of this LBA section, will talk about the advantages of working in a small firm (or as a solo practitioner after graduation.)  Also, you'll learn all about the upcoming job fair on Tuesday, March 18th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the LBA.  Mark your calendar now for both events!

Mr. Napier and his LBA section will provide the pizza for the Lunch 'n Learn.

Spring 2008 University-wide Career Fair -- All majors welcome, all kinds of employers participating

This Thursday, February 28th, 11:00 - 3:00 pm in the Brown and Williamson Club @ Papa Johns Stadium.

 

Employers representing over 60 companies/organizations are registered to attend the upcoming University-wide Career Fair to recruit current UofL students, 2008 Graduates and alumni for jobs ranging from part-time opportunities to co-op/internship positions and full-time, professional jobs.

 

Juniors, Seniors and graduate students looking for internship, co-op and/or permanent professional opportunities should come dressed to interview with resumes in hand.

The Spring Southeast Legal Hiring Conference job fair packets are on the table right in front of the Career Services Offices.  Tonight is the "drop dead" deadline for turning your resumes in!  Do it now:

Pick up the packet today; 

Select the places to which you'd like to apply;

And turn your resumes and your selection sheet in to room #182.  We'll take it from there.

Remember what the ads for the lottery tell us.  You have to pay, to play.  And somebody's gonna win; might as well be you.  So, if you want to live in the Southeast, give this a try!

More Summer Opportunities

USA Track & Field, in Indianapolis, has a variety of interesting volunteer summer internships.  Deadline: March 15.

 

FCBA (The Federal Communication Bar Association Foundation) awards $5000 summer stipends to law students employed as unpaid summer interns in positions with the FCC and other government agencies or entities with a connection to the communications industry (for example: broadcasting, cable television, telephony, satellite, wireless and information technology.)  Deadline: March 7.

Summer Patent Law Job Fair

Each summer, Loyola University of Chicago sponsors a Patent Law Job Fair.  Registration to participate opens February 20 and closes on March 14.  Here are a few particulars.  More information is available in my office...#182.

Student Eligibility to Participate:
Please note that ONLY law students returning to law school in the Fall of 2008 may participate in this program. Students beginning school in the fall of 2008, students graduating this year, or alumni are NOT eligible. This program is for summer associate and entry-level attorney positions for 2009. The only exception is for a law graduate studying for an LL.M. in Intellectual Property.

Patent Bar Exam Requirement
Virtually all employers want students who have taken or plan to take the patent bar exam (please note that not all computer science majors will qualify). The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office annually publishes requirements for taking the patent bar exam. To learn more go to www.uspto.gov/web/offices/dcom/olia/oed/examregist.htm.

Alternative Uses Session #1 -- Humana -- Tuesday, February 19th at noon in room #175

Want to work somewhere other than a law firm?  Plan to attend this pizza lunch and hear from five of our Louisville Law alums who work at Humana, drafting and negotiating all of the agreement contracts that relate to Information Technology as well as the exhibits, schedules, statements of work and amendments related to those agreements.  (The pizza, provided by Humana, will hopefully be served at 11:45.)
