Students who wish to use their computers to take the exams listed below MUST submit an Exam4 practice test by 11:59 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. You must be on campus and connected to ulsecure to submit a practice test.

Exam4 for all other Fall 2011 exams, including Prof. Hall's Torts I mid-term and Professional Responsibility, will be available Monday, Oct. 17. Students will have until 11:59 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 28 to submit a practice test for all other Fall 2011 exams.

Important information about using Exam4 to take Fall 2011 exams is now available online and in print. This information includes software support changes, hardware and operating system requirements, instructions for downloading and installing Exam4, policy and procedures, and dates and deadlines for all exams.

A final, cumulative batch of Spring 2011 Exam4 practice exam confirmation e-mail messages was sent at approximately 11:21 AM EDT on Tuesday, April 19, to 370 students who had submitted a valid practice test during the practice test period, Monday, April 4-Monday, April 18.
If you submitted an Exam4 practice test during that period and did not receive a confirmation e-mail, you likely did something wrong -- probably identifying yourself by something other than your UofL user name (e.g., eapres01). However, if you did not receive a confirmation and believe you should have, please contact Jim Becker immediately.
Exam4 is now available for Spring 2011 final exams. Students who wish to use their computer for exams -- including those who used Exam4 for mid-terms this semester -- must download and install this version of Exam4 and submit a practice test by 11:59 PM EDT, Monday, April 18, 2011.
To take and submit a practice test:
- Download and install the version of Exam4 for your computer's operating system;
- Take a PRACTICE EXAM (select from drop-down list of classes), identifying yourself by your UofL user name (e.g., eapres01), NOT with your student ID number, exam number or any other alphanumeric string.
- Submit your Practice Exam electronically ON CAMPUS ONLY by 11:59 PM EDT, Monday, April 18, 2011.
The IT department has requested a UofL Law version of Exam4 for Spring 2011 finals and hopes to have it tested and ready for release on Monday, April 4. Stay tuned to The Daily Docket for details.
While we have not yet received the software, we recently received new release notes from Extegrity announcing the following new features:
- Start-up sequence confirmations:
New pop-up dialogs add confirmation steps during the startup sequence after the two most important screens. The first one requires students to verify their Exam ID and Course entries. The second, not applicable at UofL Law, alerts students who have selected an OPEN or TAKEHOME Exam Mode to be absolutely certain of their choice.
- Exam submittal certainty:
Responding to students asking for greater certainty their exams have been successfully submitted, Exam4 now provides upgraded information at the moment of submittal plus an easier means to verify after submittal. The notification screens indicating successful or unsuccessful exam submittal have been redesigned for much greater visual impact, with larger and clearer text, presented in bright green or red blocks.
Students also want to verify after the fact, so Extegrity has added prominent instructions and a dedicated button to the first start-up screen. The new verification method has the advantage of being 100% accurate, because it checks for the receipt files returned to the laptop by the exam collection server at the time of submittal. And, it works even when not connected to a network.
- Redesigned multiple choice interface: (Not applicable at UofL Law.)
Extending last semester’s major upgrade to fully automated multiple choice scoring and grading, the student multiple choice answer screen has been completely redesigned for user-friendliness, with dramatically improved graphics and navigation, and the addition of a much-requested "clear" function.
The new ScreenShield introduced in the Windows versions last semester has been added to the Mac versions. It is a simple white circle on a green background covering the entire screen accessible during the startup sequence or in an exam, providing an easy, uniform way for students to block the view of their laptop screen without having to shut the lid.
- Performance and Appearance Improvements:
High processor loading reported by some Mac users last seemster has been repaired; and final touches toward making the Mac and Windows experience identical include mostly appearance items, but it’s a surprisingly noticeable improvement.
Also, Extegrity included this IMPORTANT announcement: The time has come to announce the end of support for the Windows XP and Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) operating systems. Therefore, students with Windows XP or Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) laptops will NOT be able to use Exam4 beginning with the Summer 2011 semester.
University IT has given the "all clear" to migrate to CardMail, so lose the GroupWise.
For the past several months, University IT has publicized January 2011 as the time at which UofL students may begin migrating from GroupWise to the new CardMail service. Apparently, IT has experienced some "start-up issues," and is now asking that students who have not already migrated forbear from doing so until University IT announces a particular DATE after which it should be safe to migrate. As soon as the law school's IT department receives notice of that date, we will pass it on via the Daily Docket, our Web site and our Twitter stream.
In the meantime ...
- If you have not already migrated from GroupWise to CardMail, please wait to do so until we get the "all clear" from University IT.
- If you have already migrated to CardMail but have NOT also closed your GroupWise account, please do not close your GroupWise account until we get the "all clear."
- If you have already migrated to CardMail AND have closed your GroupWise account, and are experiencing problems, please just try to endure until University IT resolves its "start-up issues."
