Important Planning for August 2008

Topic: On-Campus Interviewing in Fall semester 2008.

The firms are asking us to start on-campus-interviewing early this coming fall semester.  To be specific, Stites & Harbison is our first OCI and they are coming on Friday, September 5th.  THEREFORE, resumes and other items they request will need to be turned into career services no later than Tuesday, August 19th.

What does that mean for you? The 19th is only the second day of school; so needless to say, people will have to have updated their resumes while still on summer vacation.

Your Career Services staff are here throughout the summer.  Monday through Friday from 9:00 - 4:30.  We recommend that you call for an appointment because, with such a small staff and vacations and everything, it is unlikely but possible that the office will occasionally be unmanned.

Contact Jerie at 852-6096 or Debra at 852-6368.

Grads: Check and Double-check

1.  By the end of the week, we will put all the unclaimed wallet-sized photos in your mailboxes.

2.  The draft composite is now back at the printers.  Watch the door of office #182 for the hanging of the final draft -- to  make sure the changes were properly made.  (We may have it as early as this weekend, but no promises.)

3.  Be sure to get your ERSS (those employment yellow sheets) into Career Services.  AND, if you have information to add to your sheet, please come by and update us.

Attention First Years: Public Service Notice

If you were unable to attend the Public Service Program Information Session last week, please stop by the Public Service Office (Room 102) as soon as possible to pick up your copy of the new Public Service Manual.

Evening students received their copy in their student mailboxes.

Public Service Opportunity: LBA Pro Se Divorce Clinic Training

The Louisville Bar Association has scheduled a training for students who are interested in participating in their Pro Se Divorce clinics. The training is scheduled for May 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the Judicial Center (7th & Jefferson). A clinic will follow at 10:00 a.m. and last until 12:00 noon.

They can take 5 to 10 students for the training. If you interested in participating in these clinics, please respond to Jina Scinta by e-mailing her at jina.scinta@louisville.edu. The first 5-10 students to respond will be reserved a spot.

Public Service Opportunity: Kentucky Refugee Ministries Needs Student's Help

The Kentucky Refugee Ministries is looking for a student to assist them on Fridays for at least three to four hours in the morning or afternoon or both answering phones and completing other duties. If anyone is interested, please contact Jina Scinta at jina.scinta@louisville.edu. The first student to respond will be signed up.

New Law School Scholarship

Access Group is asking law students throughout the country to videotape their worries for the chance to win a $10,000 scholarship for law school.  The "One Less Worry" scholarhsip contest invites students to create and submit an original video of up to four minutes showing what they worry about as law students.

Accesss Group will review the submissions and select ten finalists that will be voted on by friends, family and the general public.  Top "vote getter" will be announced on August 1, 2008.  This contest is Access Group's first attempt at using social networking venues to educate and connect with students.  Complete contest rules and information are posted at AccessGroup.Org/OneLessWorry.
