Peggy Browning Summer Fellowship Program

The Peggy Browning Fellowship Program provides $5,000 stipends to law students who dedicate their summer to advancing the cause of workers' rights by working for labor unions, worker centers, the U.S. Department of Labor, union-side law firms and other non-profit organizations.  This summer the Program will offer 60-70 funded 10-week summer fellowships at one of the organizations/law firms/government agencies listed below.  These fellowships are open to 1Ls & 2Ls and are intended to encourage them to consider union-side labor law as a viable career choice. Students may apply to a maximum of 5 fellowships.  The deadline to apply is January 18th, 2013.  To apply, students will need to submit an application, resume, cover letter, and 3 essays.  Some employers may require a writing sample.  Students selected to receive a summer fellowships will be notified in February.  For more information and to apply, go to http://www.peggybrowningfund.org/fellowships/for-law-students/fellowship-application-form.  If questions, please contact Dean Hajek at laurel.hajek@louisville.edu or 502.852.6096.

First-year Mock Interview Program - Saturday, January 26, 2013

First-year students, the Mock Interview Program, sponsored by the SBA and the Office of Professional Development, will be on Saturday, January 26th. 

Members of the Young Lawyers' Section of the Louisville Bar Association will interview all first-year students who are interested in participating.  The event will be held at the law office of Frost Brown Todd.

Are you Interested in Animal Rights? Jury Trial Has Been Set on Cat Torture Case

In September, several students attended an Animal Rights panel at which the Alex Phelps cat torture case was discussed.  The jury trial for Alex Phelps on felony charges of torturing to death nine cats is set for next Tuesday, December 11, in Bullitt Circuit Court at 9 AM. The case numbers are 11-CR-57 and 11-CR-316. The trial will be open to the public and spectators will be allowed.

Diversity Judicial Internship Opportunities for Summer 2013

There are two Diversity Judicial Internship Opportunities for Summer 2013 posted on Symplicity.  One is with "Just The Beginning Foundation" and the other is with the American Bar Association's Litigation Section.  The deadline for both internships is Friday, January 4, 2013.

Spring 2013 Hiring Season

If you are interested in participating in Spring 2013 On Campus Interviews, Public Service fellowships or applying to firms or organizations, you will need to have a current resume.  Friday, January 11th is the date students can start "bidding" (applying to participating employers) on Symplicity.  Public Service fellowship applications will be available on January 7th.

VITA Signups Still Available

If you missed the public service information session on the VITA program, it's not too late to sign up to participate.  Interested students can obtain the VITA application, a list of the training locations and a list of the locations of the clinics from Jina Scinta.  Please stop by to pick up your public service forms and VITA information.  This project is an excellent opportunity for third year students needing to complete their public service requirement.
