Office of Professional Development Welcomes Professor Pettinato

Congratulations to all UofL Law students on the completion of another successful semester.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Tammy Pettinato will join The Office of Professional Development this summer. Dean Kathy Urbach will spend several weeks this summer meeting with employers and public service placements all around Kentucky and Indiana. Her goal is to recruit additional employers and facilitate better communication with our public service placements. She will be in the office on Mondays only, from May 15 to June 29. Professor Pettinato will help to ensure that OPD maintains full services on the days when Dean Urbach is out of the office.

Our goal is to provide you with exceptional service throughout this summer and offer an expanded fall and spring hiring season in the upcoming academic year.

Be sure that your Symplicity account is activated so that you will be in the know before you return to school.

Each copy currently on display is available for check out. Similar items can be found by browsing the contents of the bookshelves labeled KF 294 - KF 366 in the treatise section on the library's lower level.

Public Service Opportunity - Kentucky Waterways Alliance

Kentucky Waterways Alliance (KWA) is seeking a law student to assist them with research of the legality of the legislature's actions on two issues. A description of those issues is attached.

KWA is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the waters of the Commonwealth. KWA represents over 700 members and affiliate organizations united to insure high quality water resources in Kentucky for diverse recreational activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing as well as reliable drinking water supplies and biological habitat.

The student assigned to this project will be able to count their hours toward their public service requirement. Please contact Jina Scinta at jina.scinta@louisville.edu. The student will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Student Discounts for Warns Institute

We have one spot open to a student, free of cost, for each day of the Warns Institute, the law school’s annual labor and employment CLE program. It will be held at the Louisville Marriott Downtown Hotel on June 21-22. More information is available at http://www.law.louisville.edu/2012WarnsInstitute. Free attendance requires a commitment to arrive early in the morning and man the registration table. It may also require missing parts of, or entire, lectures, but we will accommodate your preferences to assure that you hear those you are particularly interested in.

If you are interested, submit an e-mail to Becky Wenning, becky.wenning@louisville.edu, copy Maggie Bratcher, mmbrat01@exchange.louisville.edu, and Ariana Levinson, a.levinson@louisville.edu, and include a paragraph stating why you are interested in attending. Also state whether you prefer to attend on Thursday or Friday or are interested in attending on either day. Please submit your statement of interest no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 28, 2012.

Students are also welcome to attend the entire program at the reduced cost of $70, or one day of the program at the reduced cost of $35. If you plan to register at reduced cost, please do so by contacting Maggie Bratcher at 502-852-1669.

Remember that all applicants, regardless of whether submitting their write-on prompts physically or electronically, must submit a signed, physical copy of the Grade Release Form directly to the Law Review. These forms should be placed in the manila envelope labeled "Release Forms" outside of the Law Review office, Room 238. Good luck to all those applying! Reminder: Requirements for Seminars, Independent Studies, and Graduation

Attainment of a cumulative grade point average of at least C (2.0) in all graded courses taken, exclusive of courses transferred from other law schools, or taken in non-law graduate courses, is required for graduation.
Students having a 2.0 or better average and at least 22 hours may register for seminars.
Students must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average to enroll in an Independent Study.
A student receiving a failing grade (F) in a required course must repeat the course. The repetition of the course does not remove the prior grade from the student's academic record. Students who fail a first year course must retake the course at its next offering.
A student who has received a failing grade in a course may not register or be assigned to retake that course with the same professor. A student requesting an exemption from this rule must submit a written request to the Associate Dean for Student Life showing compelling circumstances.

The Journal of Animal and Environmental Law is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 academic year. All those interested in the field of Animal or Environmental law and issues should apply. Applications are evaluated based on a previous writing sample and a 500 word interest statement. There are two application deadlines: for priority status, May 7^th (this guarantees an evaluation within 7 days); all other applications are due May 25^th.
