Be prepared for course registration and choose the courses that are right for you.   Do you want to enroll in an externship or an independent study?  Do you need to request to enroll in more than 16 hours as a full-time student or 12 hours as a part-time student?  Have you completed a degree checklist recently?  Do you want to take non-law graduate level courses?  
 
The Student Life Office will be offering course registration advising office hours for upper division students on March 28, 29, and 30.  Stop by or make an appointment in advance to discuss any questions you may have regarding your Summer or Fall 2011 schedule, graduation requirements, externships, pre-registration permission forms, etc.  Kathleen Bean, Associate Dean for Student Life, and Kimberly Ballard, Academic Success Director, will be available to provide one-on-one advising, and to answer questions about course selection.  To sign-up for a time in advance, add your name to the appointment sheets outside offices 212 and 216.

The first ever 1L appellate binding project was a huge success that had a net profit of about approximately $300 plus over $300 from contributions from donors inspired by the project.

McKenzie Cantrell initiated the idea and did much of the work, including a full day on a Saturday.
 
The funds will provide three scholarships for Central Law and Government Magnet students to attend the Summer Law Institute (a joint week-long program sponsored by the Brandeis School of Law, Bellarmine University, and the Louisville Bar Association).  It will also support some of the costs for the team of four magnet seniors and two coaches to participate in the third annual Marshall Brennan Civil Liberties Moot Court competition in Philadelphia in early April.

March 31:  Mandatory 1L Advising session, Room 275, at noon.  All current first-year students must attend.  This program will give the current first-year students,  full- and part-time, all necessary registration information.

The annual School of Law Awards and Leadership Recognition Program is scheduled at the University Club for April 1, 2011, beginning with a reception at 5:00 p.m.  All students are invited.  Students who are recipients of named and commonwealth scholarships; recipients of academic and leadership awards; recipients of the highest grades in law school courses in 2010; members of honor societies, professional skills teams, and law school publications; and leaders in student government organizations will be honored.  Recognized students will receive invitations by the end of the week.  Questions?  See Dean Bean.   

Congratulations to the Wagner Moot Court Team on an excellent performance.  In all three preliminary rounds, they received glowing feedback, although we did not advance to the next round.  In the first round, the judges stated of Kristen Staley and Ben Basil that they did a “really good job fielding questions, knowing the cases, and knowing the facts.”  The judges concluded: “It was nice to see they had put in the necessary work.”  In the second round, Heather Sidwell and Ben Basil argued on behalf of the employer.  The judges stated that Heather’s presentation was “very good.”  She “was poised and responsive and kept the judges boxed in” on her points.  The judges (ironically) stated that Ben “was very convincing and clearly believed in his argument.”  In the third round, the judges noted that they were “throwing tough questions,” and that Ben and Kristen handled them well and had good mastery of the law.
