Info Session on Externships and Clinics

Each semester, several opportunities exist for skills-based externship and law clinic experiences.   If you are thinking about participating in the law clinic or an externship during spring or summer 2012, please join us on Monday, October 31, to hear from faculty supervisors.  The information session will be at noon in Room 175.  Get answers to your questions before the registration period for the spring and summer semesters.
Information will be provided relating to the Law Clinic, the Entrepreneurship Clinic, and the following externships: Tax, Immigration, and Technology Transfer; Judicial; Criminal Justice - Defense; Criminal Justice - Prosecution; Legal Aid Society; County Attorney; and Clinical Research Contracts.

Yoga: New time; same place

You voted (with your feet) ... and we listened.  The late afternoon yoga sessions have proven not all that popular.  So we're switching!  Starting this Monday, October 31st, yoga classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 am.  Whether you've tried yoga before and want to resume, or want to give it a try for the first time, feel free to stop by in Room LL77. 

 

Classes will run for three weeks at the new time, and then will cease for the rest of the semester. 

Bar Exam Panel - TODAY at 12:10

Please join Dean Ballard and five May 2011 graduates for an informative session on preparing for the bar exam.  The session will begin at 12:10 in Room 275.  Papa John's pizza, breadsticks, and softdrinks will be served.  Guests include Brian Bennett, Roz Cordini, Sean Donaldson, Marilyn Osborn Patterson, and Tarra Ragan.

Upper Division Registration Advising Office Hours

Be prepared for course registration and choose the courses that are right for you.   Do you want to enroll in an externship or an independent study?  Do you need to request to enroll in more than 16 hours as a full-time student or 12 hours as a part-time student?  Have you completed a degree checklist recently?  Do you want to take non-law graduate level courses?  
 
The Student Life Office will be offering course registration advising office hours for upper division students on October 25 and 26, and during the week of November 1.  Stop by or make an appointment in advance to discuss any questions you may have regarding your Spring or Summer 2012 schedules, graduation requirements, externships, pre-registration permission forms, etc.  John Cross, Associate Dean for Student Life, and Kimberly Ballard, Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Services, will be available to provide one-on-one advising, and to answer questions about course selection.  To sign-up for a time in advance, add your name to the appointment sheet outside Dean Ballard's office.

Planning to Take a Bar Exam in February 2012 or July 2012?

Be sure to attend an information meeting and panel discussion this Thursday, October 27, at 12:10 in Room 275.  Dean Ballard and five recent grads will provide information on the application process and how to prepare for a bar exam.  Papa John's pizza and softdrinks will be served.

Brandeis Portrait on Display at Young Professionals Event

Robert Shetterly's portrait of Louis Brandeis from which the law school's reproduction was made will be on display along with about 30 other portraits of "Americans Who Tell the Truth: at a Young Professionals Cocktail Hour sponsored by the Kentucky ACLU.  The event will be on November 17, at 5:30 at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, 1701 West Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

Bar Exam Panel - This Thursday

On Thursday, October 27, join Dean Ballard, Brian Bennett, Roz Cordini, Nicole Kersting, Marilyn Osborn-Patterson, and Tarra Ragan for an important informational meeting regarding the Kentucky and Indiana Bar Exams.  The session will begin at 12:10, and lunch will be provided.  The May 2011 graduates are eager to share their experiences with you in preparing for, taking, and successfully passing the bar exam.  Learn from their mistakes and gain some valuable tips for studying.  Dean Ballard will also provide attendees with important information on application deadlines and helpful information to complete the bar exam application.
