Documentation of U.S. Citizenship for KY Bar Application
The Kentucky Bar Application now requires all applicants to provide documentation of U.S. citizenship or immigration status. If you are a U.S. citizen and were born in the United States, the Kentucky Office of Bar Admissions will accept a certified copy of your birth certificate. You should obtain a certified copy from the appropriate government office in the state where you were born.
If you were born in Kentucky, you may request a certified copy of your birth certificate by phone, internet, mail, or in person. The cost is $10 per copy. Additional fees apply if you request a copy by phone or internet. For more information, visit http://chfs.ky.gov/dph/vital/birthcert.htm.
The Kentucky Office of Bar Admissions will not accept a hospital birth certificate, photocopies, notarized photocopies, or foreign birth certificates.
