American College of Trial Lawyers National Trial Competition
Compete in one of the best trial advocacy competitions in the nation! The Moot Court Board has approved funding to send up to two teams to compete in the Regional Competition.
Tryouts will be held October 3rd from 6-8 P.M. in the Hebel Court Room. Students interested in trying out for the teams can sign up for a time slot on the Moot Court Board Office. Students who are trying out are asked to prepare and deliver an opening statement or a closing argument based on a past NTC problem - Krista Barbour v. Southern Comfort Life Insurance Co. A link to the Southern Comfort Life Insurance Co. problem is below. Your opening statement or closing argument should not last longer than 10 minutes. Please also bring a copy of your resume.
The ACTL competition is a SPRING competition. The regional trial competition is typically held during the first, second, or third week of February. The teams will be competing against students from Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. The top two teams from each Region will compete at the National Competition, which is held in Austin, Texas from March 26-30. Students will receive two credit hours in the spring for participating in the competition. Participation as a third-year law student will also satisfy the Capstone Course requirement for the Litigation Skills Certificate Program. Questions?
