Booker T. Stallworth will speak about voting security in light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision of Crawford v. Marion County Election Board, 553 U.S. ___ (2008), and the constitutionality of felon voting disenfranchisement laws in the modern day. Booker will speak for approximately 40 minutes and will allow 10-20 minutes for questions. This event is open to all and any intelligent questions or comments are welcome.
Speaker Bios
· Booker T. Stallworth, Jr. is a public relations specialist, columnist, political and social commentator and First Amendment activist, who describes himself as an advocate for “free individuals, free societies, and free markets.”
· Most recently, Booker oversaw the media campaign in the combined case of Washington v. the Washington Education Association and Davenport v. Washington Education Association. The case, which he branded as Teachers-vs-Union, was described by the Wall Street Journal as one of “the most important First Amendment decisions in years,” and resulted in a unanimous 9-0 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
· Booker attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied political science and communications rhetoric, and was a member of the esteemed Russian and East European Studies (REES) Program and award-winning William Pitt Debate Union.
· During his four years on campus, Booker made a name for himself as a libertarian/conservative campus activist. He wrote a weekly column, titled “By the Book” for The Pitt News, and hosted a weekly news-talk radio program by the same name on WPTS radio.
· He founded the Organization of Minority & Female Conservatives, which was dedicated to spreading conservative and free-market values and representing an alternative viewpoint among blacks, women, Jews and Hispanics on campus.
· From 1994-1997, Booker also served as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of "The Phoenix," an independent, privately funded newspaper dedicated to promoting free speech on the campuses of Pitt, Duquesne University and Carnegie Mellon University.
· After leaving Pitt, Booker went on to work as Colonel Oliver North's Communications Director at Freedom Alliance in Dulles, Virginia.
· There, he designed publications and edited “The Free American” and “China Watch.” His chief responsibilities included ghost-writing weekly columns for FA Chairman Oliver North and former U.S. Senator Steve Symms (Idaho), writing issue briefs, and making numerous national media appearances. He was also responsible for writing speeches for Col. North and researching topics for “Common Sense Radio: The Oliver North Show.”
· While at Freedom Alliance, Booker was selected to accompany Georgia Congressman Bob Barr and General Gordon Sumner on an expedition to Panama to investigate the withdrawal of the U.S. Southern Command from the Canal Zone, and its impact on U.S. national security.
· In 1999, Booker returned to Pittsburgh to form T. Craig Consulting, a "one stop shop" for communication and fundraising needs. T. Craig Consulting boasted a staff of 30 consultants, including five PhD Professors of Political Science from Grove City College. Its clients included the Simplex Group, Inc., Baker Installations, Patrick Henry Center (VA), Young America’s Foundation's Reagan Ranch (CA), Christian Sports International, Judge Roy Moore for Chief Justice (AL), Excellent Education for Everyone (NJ), and various others.
· In 2004, Booker joined that staff of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation in Washington State. Founded in 1991 with a base of 341 supporters, the Evergreen Freedom Foundation (EFF) is a private, non-profit, public policy research organization. Its mission is to advance individual liberty, free enterprise, and limited and accountable government.
· As Communications Director, Booker revamped the organization's public outreach, oversaw a branding campaign to establish the organization as the "go-to source" on major public policy issues, and conducted a successful branding and media strategy for a case he helped get before the United States Supreme Court.
· Booker has been featured or referenced in numerous publications, including The Washington Times, American Enterprise Magazine, NCPA Policy Review, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Houston Chronicle, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review, The LA Times, The Allentown Morning Call, The Seattle Times, and numerous others.
· His columns have been published in the Washington Times, Boston Herald, Human Events, The Detroit News, Sun City Daily News, The Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Tacoma News Tribune, Vancouver (WA) Columbian and Conservative Chronicle, among others.
