As part of the Office of Professional Development team, I am the Coordinator of the Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service Program. As the Coordinator, I am responsible for ensuring that each law student completes the 30-hour public service requirement for graduation. I assist students in determining where they would like to perform their public service based on their interests in any particular area of law. I coordinate various fellowships available through our program, by writing grant proposals and helping students with the application process. I also provide administrative support to many special projects, such as the Family Law Pro Bono Mediation Project, the Central High School Law Magnet Program, Legal Aid Pro Se Divorce and Wills Clinics, Louisville Bar Association Pro Se Divorce clinics, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and special week-long projects for our first year students. Additionally, I assist students with the federal judicial clerkship application process through OSCAR. I have been with the Samuel L. Greenebaum Public Service Program since 1994.
My mission is to assure that students see public service as integral part of their legal education and will make it a life-long habit. Participation in the mandatory public service program provides the necessary career-building first legal experience for every student regardless of background or area of interest. I am proud to say that the Public Service Program provides our law students with their first legal job. Providing legal services to those without access is now seen as a UofL Law student's opportunity, as well as an obligation.
