Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court Deadline Today

TODAY is the DEADLINE to express interest in  participating in the Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court Competition and competing in Atlanta on February 12, 2011! Any interested student will need to prepare a four page, double spaced memorandum, based on the try-out problem prompt and then, depending on the number of completed memorandums, prepare a short oral argument.

The deadline to sign up to receive the try-out problem is TODAY, Wednesday, October 6. To sign up, email Teresa Kenyon, Trademark Moot Court Competition Facilitator, email: Teresa.Kenyon@louisville.edu. The problem will be available on Wednesday, October 6 and will be sent via email. The memorandum will be due by Monday, October 11. If necessary, oral arguments will be on October 11, 12 or 13. The team members will be announced shortly thereafter.

Sign-ups for the Kaufman Memorial Securities Moot Court Competition in Process!

Individuals interested in participating in the Kaufman Memorial Securities Moot Court Competition can sign up for a tryout on the Moot Court Board Office door.

Located next to the sign up sheet, applicants can pick up the problem prompt prepared by Securities Moot Court Team Coach, Professor Warren.

Interested students will prepare a 2-3 page memorandum based on the problem prompt and a 10 minute oral presentation regarding the problem.

National Environment Law Moot Court Seeking Team Members

National Environment Law Moot Court Competition

The Twenty-third Annual National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition (NELMCC) will be held Thursday, February 24, through Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Pace Law School, White Plains, New York.  Past problems have covered topics that varied from sunken treasure to recycled iPhones.  The team for this competition will consist of three individuals who will compose a brief addressing an issue of environmental law.  The team will then travel to White Plains to compete in February by arguing all three sides of the issue.  This year’s problem will be released on October 4, 2010.  The brief will be due on November 29, 2010.  More information about the competition is available at www.law.pace.edu/NELMCC/.  While experience with environmental law or administrative law would be helpful, it is certainly not necessary.  The coaches for this year’s competition are Algeria Ford and Brian Pollock.  If you are interested in being a part of the team, please send the following information to Brian Pollock via email (bpmoving@yahoo.com):

1. Brief Statement of Interest in Environmental Law and/or moot court competition (150 words or less).
2. Resume
3. Writing Sample (5 pages or less) - You may select a larger sample of work to send, but please indicate the 5 pages which you would like to be most fully considered.

Tax Moot Court Team Seeking Interest

Tax Law Moot Court

Any interested 2L, 3L, or 4L may sign up for the Tax Law Moot Court Competition, held March 3-5, 2011 in St. Petersburg, Florida. The team’s coach is Professor Norvie Lay.

The format of the competition consists of a first round double elimination oral argument followed by single elimination quarterfinals, semifinal and final rounds.  There is a separate competition for written briefs, with independent judging and awards.  The problem consists of three or four issues, all tax related.

2010 Pirtle-Washer Oral Advocacy Competition Deadline Friday, September 24th

The annual Pirtle-Washer Oral Advocacy Competition is a great opportunity for law students to hone their oral advocacy skills. This competition is open to all 2L, 3L, and 4L University of Louisville Law Students. The competition focuses on a competitor's ability as an oral advocate and therefore requires no research outside of the given materials. The preliminary rounds will be held on Saturday, October 16th and the Finals will be on Friday, October 22nd. If interested please sign up on the Moot Court Board door by Friday, September  24th at Noon and attend the informational meeting in room 175 at 12:10 pm on  Thursday, September 23rd.

Last Day to Sign-up for the Negotiation Competition is 9/22!!

Last day to apply for Negotiation Competition: 

Any 2L, 3L, or 4L who would like to be considered for the ABA Negotiation Competition Team must send an email to Associate Dean Arnold, co-coach, at tony.arnold@louisville.edu, no later than September 22, with: 1) the student's name; 2) why he/she wants to be on the U of L ABA Negotiation Team; 3) the student's background in negotiations; 4) the student's availability for practices; and 5) contact information for the student.  Selections will be made after September 22 by co-coaches Tony Arnold and Mary Jo Gleason.  The regional rounds of the ABA Negotiation Competition will be November 13 and 14 in East Lansing, MI.  In recent years, a team from U of L won the national competition, and we hope to continue our success in this competition this year. Please direct any questions to Iara Montoro at iara.montoro@louisville.edu.
