Sign-Ups for Securities Law Moot Court Competition

Interested in Securities Law and representing UofL in New York City? Any 2L, 3L, or 4L can now sign-up for the Irving R. Kaufman Memorial Securities Law Moot Court Competition, held March 23-25 in New York City. The team’s coach is Professor Manning G. Warren, III.

To sign up, send an e-mail to Pete Lay at atlay001@louisville.edu to request a copy of the tryout problem for this year's Securities Law Moot Court Team. After receiving the problem, please right a response to the problem (1-2 pages, single spaced) and e-mail the following to Pete Lay:

2. Your response to the tryout problem

The deadline for submission of these items is Wednesday, October 19 at 5:00 p.m. Interviews will be scheduled for the following week for all applicants.

Currently, only one team of two members will be selected for this competition. Direct any questions to Pete Lay.

Pirtle-Washer Agreement to Compete

For students interested in participating in Pirtle-Washer, the Agreement to Compete and Waiver and Release forms are due by noon tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Sign-Ups for Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition

Interested in energy law and in sustainable energy production? If so, 2L, 3L, or 4L students are encouraged to sign-up for the 2012 National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition. This competition will take place March 15-17, 2012, at West Virginia University's College of Law in Morgantown, West Virginia. Cash awards will be presented to the winning competitors, and it will be great opportunity to meet other law students interested in energy sustainability as well as industry professional and government regulators. The team is coached by Professor Tom FitzGerald and local environmental law attorney, Randy Strobo.

To sign up, please email a resume, a statement of interest (1 page), and a writing sample (maximum 25 pages) to Brian O'Connor at bjacksonoconnor@gmail.com. A team will be chosen based on these three items. The deadline to sign up for this competition is November 1, 2011.

Sign-Ups for Immigration Law Moot Court Competition

If you are a 2L, 3L, or 4L and would like to represent UofL in the NYU Immigration Law Moot Court Competition in New York City, February 24-26, 2012, now is the time to apply. Please submit the following information to the Moot Court Board office by noon on October 17:


1. Resume
2. Unofficial transcript
3. A writing sample
4. A statement of interest including any past experience in immigration law (past experience is not a requirement)

Coach Prof. Trucios-Haynes will conduct interviews the week of October 24.

UofL has been very successful in this competition. The 2010 team won the competition and the 2008 team had best brief and argued in the finals. Please direct any questions to Jennie Lynch, jalycn01@louisville.edu.

Seeking Applicants for Intrastate Mock Trial

All interested 2Ls, 3Ls and 4Ls are encouraged to apply to participate in this year’s Kentucky Intrastate Mock Trial Competition, an annual trial advocacy competition among Kentucky’s three law schools: U of L, UK and Northern Kentucky University. Brandeis will send two teams, each comprised of four law students, to compete at this year’s competition, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, 2011.

 

This year’s team will be coached by Sandra Moon, a 2011 Brandeis graduate, and Heend Sheth, Assistant Jefferson County Attorney at Jefferson County Attorney’s Office. Professor JoAnn Sweeny will serve as the team’s faculty advisor.

 

All students interested in applying should contact Eddie O’Brien, the competition’s Moot Court Board facilitator, at emobri01@louisville.edu and provide a copy of your resume and a writing sample (preferably your first-year appellate brief or a substantial equivalent).
