Interested in energy law and in sustainable energy production? If so, 2L, 3L, or 4L students are encouraged to sign-up for the 2012 National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition. This competition will take place March 15-17, 2012, at West Virginia University's College of Law in Morgantown, West Virginia. Cash awards will be presented to the winning competitors, and it will be great opportunity to meet other law students interested in energy sustainability as well as industry professional and government regulators. The team is coached by Professor Tom FitzGerald and local environmental law attorney, Randy Strobo.
To sign up, please email a resume, a statement of interest (1 page), and a writing sample (maximum 25 pages) to Brian O'Connor at email@example.com. A team will be chosen based on these three items. The deadline to sign up for this competition is November 1, 2011.

All interested 2Ls, 3Ls and 4Ls are encouraged to apply to participate in this year’s Kentucky Intrastate Mock Trial Competition, an annual trial advocacy competition among Kentucky’s three law schools: U of L, UK and Northern Kentucky University. Brandeis will send two teams, each comprised of four law students, to compete at this year’s competition, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, 2011.
This year’s team will be coached by Sandra Moon, a 2011 Brandeis graduate, and Heend Sheth, Assistant Jefferson County Attorney at Jefferson County Attorney’s Office. Professor JoAnn Sweeny will serve as the team’s faculty advisor.

no written requirement, as this is not a
“briefed” competition. Instead,
students compete in pairs of two in a simulated law office consultation in
which the students, acting as attorneys, are presented with a client
matter. They conduct an interview with a
person playing the role of the client, and then explain how they would proceed
further in the hypothetical situation. The
judges evaluate how the team elicited facts, advised about the relevant law, provided
options for proceeding, and assisted the client to make an informed choice. For
the tryout, each interview will last approximately 15 minutes; the actual
competition will be a 30-minute interview.
regional competition will take place February 11, 2012, at Northern Kentucky
University’s Chase College of Law in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The regional competition consists of three
qualifying rounds with each team competing indirectly against two other teams
in each round. After the qualifying rounds, the top six teams advance to
the semifinal round, culminating with the three winning teams in the final
round. The first place team from each
regional competition will advance to the National Finals on March 16-17, 2012,
in Durham, North Carolina.
3L, & 4L students are encouraged to sign-up. The team is coached by Professor Leslie
Abramson and Louisville attorney Paul Schurman.

Any interested 2L, 3L, or 4L may sign up now for the Trademark Law Moot Court Competition. The Regional Competition will be held February 11, 2012 in Chicago or Atlanta, depending on the team’s regional placement. The top two teams in each region will advance to the National Final on March 17, 2012 in Washington, DC. UofL Law won the Southern Regional and National Final last year. The coaches are Professor Lars Smith and Jack Wheat of Stites & Harbison. Currently, the law school plans on sending two teams to the competition.
Professor Smith will review the submissions and send interested competitors a problem by Monday, September 26. The brief will be due on Monday, October 3 at 9 AM, and oral arguments will be held that week to select team members. To sign up, send an e-mail with a short statement of interest (1 page maximum) to Luke Markushewski at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for submitting a statement of interest is Friday, September 23 at 9 AM.
