The Kentucky Bar Association's Young Lawyer's Association will be giving information on what to do if you do not have a job yet. Please attend if you are still in the job search. The event will be in room 275 at 12 p.m. today (Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009). Free food will be served!!!

SBA November Student of the Month: Barry Dunn

The SBA November Student of the Month is Barry Dunn. Barry is the President of the Moot Court Board where he helped raise thousands of dollars in donations on behalf of the school's preeminent Trial Advocacy Organization. He also co-founded the First-Year Oral Advocacy Competition. He leads a group of four exceptional students as the only returning member of the law school's National Moot Court Team. Moreover he is an active member of the University of Louisville Law Review, for which he serves as Notes Editor. Last year he was a Torts tutor for the first years, and he organized mock interviews for the first years. He was also a finalist in the Pirtle-Washer Argument Competition and is a research assistant for Professor Weaver. Thanks Barry! Your contributions do not go unnoticed.

New Food Service Initiative at the Law School

Colleagues:

In response to several law students' desire to have food service at the law school, the SBA has begun a pilot food service initiative. Beginning on October 5, 2009 through November 23, different organizations will be selling food in the law school lobby on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the exception of Oct. 7, 21, and 28. Each organization will be given an opportunity to sign up via TWEN for a date to sell food in the lobby. Any law student organization may sign up after they have added the TWEN page entitled "Student Organization Food Service." Once you have added the TWEN course, click the "Sign-up Sheets" link on the left. From there, click the "Food Service Sign-Up" link. Next pick the time that your organization would like to sell food in the lobby. Remember to type your organization's name next to your name. The sign-ups will be honored on a first come, first serve basis. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please email me at vmrevi01@louisville.edu. I will try to email you back in a timely fashion.

This is a pilot food service project for this semester. If it goes well, we will do it again next semester. If it does not go well, then we will not. On behalf of the SBA, we thank you for your participation in this program.

ATTENTION STUDENT ORG. LEADERS!

The Student Bar Association maintains mailboxes for each student organization at the law school as a service to our student body. They are located on the bottom right hand corner of the general student mailboxes in the basement. Unfortunately, they are very out of date. I would like to update the student organization mailboxes, but I need to know which organizations are currently in existence. Once we create a current mailbox list, we will distribute mail accordingly. We expect each organization to designate a person to check it regularly.

So far, I have heard from each of the following organizations. If you are a leader of a student organization not mentioned on this list, please email me ASAP so we can take care of you. We want to make your law school experience the best that it possibly can be!

Diversity Forum to Address ENDA

Keys to the Door: ENDA, Transgender Identity, and Community
September 29, 2009, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM, Room 275

Sponsored by the Diversity Committee and the Lambda Law Caucus, with the following co-sponsors: ACLU of KY, ACS, BLSA, Fairness Campaign, Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, SBA, UofL LGBT Services Office.

A three-person panel will discuss ENDA generally, the case for inclusion of transgender people in ENDA, and the politics of ENDA.

This event is part of the UofL Pride Week celebration and will include a light lunch from Expressions of You (available at 11:30 AM).

SBA September Student of the Month: Rexena Napier

Rexena is recognized for her dedication to increasing the University of Louisville Law School's reputation. She is a 3L and is the President of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, an organization that is committed to safeguarding the rights of animals through the legal system and raising public awareness regarding Animal Law. She has also worked at the Lewis and Clark Animal Law Clinic. She started the newest Journal at the Law School, the Journal of Animal and Environmental Law. Rexena is also the Recorder for the Lambda Law Caucus and is an Academic Fellow. She was very helpful in organizing the Animal Clinic Community Service Day during 1L Orientation this summer. We appreciate all that you do for Louisville Law. Your contributions do not go unnoticed.

Hooding Poll for Graduating Students

Students graduating next month are encouraged to vote for the faculty members whom they wish to present the graduates' hoods at the Law School Convocation. The online survey form is at www.law.louisville.edu/students/sba/grad-survey. Graduating students must log in with their Lawnet credentials to vote in the poll and may only vote once. You may select up to three faculty members. Only the names of those faculty members who will be present at the Convocation are listed.

Judicial Candidates Visit Law School

Several dozen students, staff, and faculty from the law school attended the Brandeis Judicial Forum on October 7, 2008. The Student Bar Association sponsored this opportunity to meet candidates seeking positions in the District Court, Circuit Court, and the Kentucky Supreme Court.

New Student Mentoring Program

Rising 2 and 3Ls,

For the 2008-2009 school year, the SBA is starting a student mentoring program for incoming 1Ls. If you would like to get to know members of the incoming class and give them personalized advice on how to approach and navigate through the first year of law school, please consider becoming a student mentor. Responsibilities may include participation at orientation related events, as well as being available throughout the school year, especially during the beginning of fall semester. We need all the help we can get, so, if you are at all interested, contact Will Corrigan (wmcorr01@louisville.edu) before July 4. Thanks!

The SBA Class of 2008 Graduation Party will be held at O'Shea's on Baxter Avenue on Wednesday, May 7 from 7-10 p.m. There will be a limited supply of free refreshments and food so come early!
