Judicial Candidates Visit Law School

Several dozen students, staff, and faculty from the law school attended the Brandeis Judicial Forum on October 7, 2008. The Student Bar Association sponsored this opportunity to meet candidates seeking positions in the District Court, Circuit Court, and the Kentucky Supreme Court.

While the law school makes no endorsements, we'd like to thank each of the following candidates for having taken time out of their busy schedules to attend.

New Student Mentoring Program

Rising 2 and 3Ls,

For the 2008-2009 school year, the SBA is starting a student mentoring program for incoming 1Ls. If you would like to get to know members of the incoming class and give them personalized advice on how to approach and navigate through the first year of law school, please consider becoming a student mentor. Responsibilities may include participation at orientation related events, as well as being available throughout the school year, especially during the beginning of fall semester. We need all the help we can get, so, if you are at all interested, contact Will Corrigan (wmcorr01@louisville.edu) before July 4. Thanks!

Winners must pick up their vouchers from the SBA office and turn them in to the athletic ticket office in the SAC by APRIL 30th. Vouchers will not be honored after that day and the TICKETS WILL BE LOST.

FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Club Programming Committee (CPC) applications are now being accepted for fall 2008 events. Over $35,000 in funds will be allocated to organizations for fall 2008 programs. CPC is a joint initiative coordinated by SGA and the Dean of Students Office. The CPC is composed primarily of students, so students will decide what sort of funding directives best support student life. SGA has made a major financial commitment to support CPC, and other departments have also provided funding (Dean of Students Office, Housing, and VP for Student Affairs).

During the spring semester CPC allocated funds to over 40 separate events. CPC monies are intended to afford recognized student organizations the opportunity to contribute to the quality of campus life by sponsoring special events and programs that may not be possible without this financial assistance. Proposal requests should demonstrate how funding the initiative would inspire a vibrant campus life and an engaged student body. Every request received will be reviewed by the CPC on a case-by-case basis.

Graduating Students- Composite Rough Draft

Starlight Photos will be bringing the rough draft of the composite sometime between April 13-18. The composite will be located on Dean Torbeck's door. All students included in the composite should check the draft to look for typos and any other problems.

2008-2009 Football/Basketball Season Ticket Lottery

1Ls & 2Ls, sign-up sheets are now up on the SBA door for 2008-09 men's football and basketball season tickets. Due to the limited number of tickets reserved for law students, there will be a lottery held on Saturday, April 19th to determine the winners. You must sign up on the SBA door by Friday, April 18 at 5:00 P.M. to be eligible.

Prices for Basketball & Football Combo tickets will cost approximately $210 per student ($420 if providing a ticket for a guest). For Football only, tickets will cost approximately $72 per student ($144 if providing a ticket for a guest).

Also, please remember that no law students are allowed to attend the undergraduate ticket lottery. You will lose your tickets if you attend.
