Louisville recently performed well at the The Energy and Sustainability National Moot Court Competition. Louisville was represented by Lize Goykhberg, Jacob Giesecke, and Tyler Fleck who returned from Morgantown, WV as semi-finalists. After the 4 preliminary rounds, Louisville was the last team selected to advance to the Quarterfinals. Putting together a strong performance, Louisville advanced to the semi-finals to argue against the number 1 seed. This was Louisville's first year to compete in the competition. The University of Kentucky was last year's winner of the competition, but finished 5th this year, being edged out by Louisville.

Law School Democrats of America

Are you interested in starting a chapter of the Law School Democrats of America, the official law student arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC)?  Currently, there are over 90 chapters at ABA-accredited law schools throughout the nation.  Having an active Democratic law student presence on your campus is critical so your student body can be informed about the events and programs that the Law School Democrats of America are working on.  A few of those events and programs including:

  • attending the annual Law Democrat Convention;
  • assisting the DNC on certain election research law projects for the Obama re-election campaign;
  • organizing voter protection efforts with the Obama campaign team for the upcoming re-election in November 2012;
  • invitations to closed networking events and campaign meetings with top Democratic attorneys and DNC staffers;
  • participating in our mentoring program with the Obama Lawyers Committee, which pairs a Democratic law student with a prominent Democratic attorney in the law student's desired practice area; and
  • invitations to the DNC Nominating Convention in Charlotte.

The 6th Circuit Chair of the Law School Democrats of America can also help in providing nationally known speakers for student events at the Law School.  If any students are interested in forming a chapter, please contact Jessica Doogan, the 2011-2012 6th Circuit Chair.  Ms. Doogan can provide a start-up kit and on-going support that will give the Democratic student leaders all the resources they need in getting the chapter off the ground.  Ms. Doogan’s contact information is 614-477-9979 <tel:614-477-9979>  or jdoogan@lawschooldems.org.
