Please join the Women's Law Caucus for our first meeting of the year! Everyone is invited to come and enjoy some FREE LUNCH and learn about all the exciting events the WLC will be hosting this year! We will be introducing new events as well as our classic events, such as the Mentor Jet program and Apparel Sales. Please bring $5 for dues in the form of cash or check (checks made payable to Women's Law Caucus). Dues are a one-time payment; if you paid dues last year, you do not have to pay again! We look forward to meeting you all MONDAY, Sept. 8th at 12:15pm, in room 175! See you there!
In 2010, Ms. JD partnered with the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession to found the Ms. JD Fellowship. The Fellowship is Ms. JD's program to promote mentoring and professional development. Each spring, Ms. JD selects a group of outstanding second year law students as Fellowship recipients. In addition to receiving financial support and invitations to ABA and Ms. JD events, each Fellowship recipient is paired with a mentor chosen from among the Brent Award honorees, Spirit of Excellence Award recipients, and ABA Commission on Women in the Profession Commissioners.
Here's what you'll need to submit to apply for the fellowship:
1. Resume (Must include a link to your LinkedIn Profile)
2. Unofficial Law School Transcripts
3. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “There are many mentorship programs for law students; why would you like to participate in the Ms. JD Fellowship?”
4. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “Describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability, both in and out of law school.”
5. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “If you had to contribute to the Ms. JD community by writing a blog post, what would you discuss and why?”
6. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question “Describe in detail an event that you would like to organize at your law school that promotes women in the law.”
Submit your application to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications are due March 1, 2014, at 11:59pm. Ms. JD will announce Fellowship finalists in March. Finalists will complete interviews with two Ms. JD board members by the end of March and the Ms. JD Fellows and their mentors will be announced at the end of April.
NAWL-PRUDENTIAL 2014 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The National Association of Women Lawyers is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity to a highly-motivated first-year law student. Through this partnership, NAWL will select a student to join the 2014 summer law intern class at Prudential for a 10-week internship at Prudential's offices, for a stipend of approximately $10,000. The internship position will be located in the New Jersey tri-state area.

Hall of Justice
The Women's Law Caucus is pleased to announce that we will again be sponsoring a jail tour and panel. This event is open to all students and will take place on September 26, 2013 at the Hall of Justice located at 600 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, Kentucky.
We will start in Courtroom 204 beginning at 5:00 where we will hear from Jefferson County Attorney, Mike O'Connell, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Kristi Gray, and a representative from the public defender's office. After they speak the floor will open up for a Q&A session.
After the Q&A we will head over to the the jail for a tour.
Keep in mind that you should dress modestly for this event. Casual dress is fine, but not shorts or short skirts or dresses. We anticipate that the event will end at 7:00pm. Keep in mind that there is no food or drink allowed in the courtroom.

The Women's Law Caucus and Women Lawyers Association invite any interested students to sign up for a Question & Answer session with representatives from the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, the Office of Jefferson County Attorney, and the Jefferson County Public Defender's Office followed by a tour of the Jefferson County Corrections facility. The session and tour will take place on September 5 from 5:30-7:30.
