2Ls: Apply for the 2014 Ms. JD Fellowship - Deadline March 1

In 2010, Ms. JD partnered with the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession to found the Ms. JD Fellowship. The Fellowship is Ms. JD's program to promote mentoring and professional development. Each spring, Ms. JD selects a group of outstanding second year law students as Fellowship recipients. In addition to receiving financial support and invitations to ABA and Ms. JD events, each Fellowship recipient is paired with a mentor chosen from among the Brent Award honorees, Spirit of Excellence Award recipients, and ABA Commission on Women in the Profession Commissioners. 

Here's what you'll need to submit to apply for the fellowship:

1. Resume (Must include a link to your LinkedIn Profile)

2. Unofficial Law School Transcripts

3. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “There are many mentorship programs for law students; why would you like to participate in the Ms. JD Fellowship?”

4. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “Describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability, both in and out of law school.”

5. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question, “If you had to contribute to the Ms. JD community by writing a blog post, what would you discuss and why?”

6. One paragraph (250 words) answering the question “Describe in detail an event that you would like to organize at your law school that promotes women in the law.”

Submit your application to fellowship@ms-jd.org. Applications are due March 1, 2014, at 11:59pm. Ms. JD will announce Fellowship finalists in March. Finalists will complete interviews with two Ms. JD board members by the end of March and the Ms. JD Fellows and their mentors will be announced at the end of April.



The National Association of Women Lawyers is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity to a highly-motivated first-year law student. Through this partnership, NAWL will select a student to join the 2014 summer law intern class at Prudential for a 10-week internship at Prudential's offices, for a stipend of approximately $10,000. The internship position will be located in the New Jersey tri-state area.

The orders are in! We will doing payment/pickup TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 26th, from 11-1 in the Mosaic Lobby. Please bring cash or check. If you are unable to pickup tomorrow, please contact Megan Resch to meet individually megan.resch@louisville.edu or (502)432-5898. Otherwise, you will have to pick up after break.

Fall Apparel Sales

The Women's Law Caucus will be offering apparel sales in late October. The WLC normally sells T-Shirts (long sleeved and short sleeved), sweatshirts (crewneck and hooded), and fleeces (full zip and half zip). This year we would like to ask the student body to assist in creating a design for our T-shirts and sweatshirts. We would love to see your creative side! Submit design ideas to Megan Resch at megan.resch@louisville.edu no later than Friday October 4th. Once we have received the submissions, we allow everyone to vote on their favorite design. We hope to take orders the third week of October.

Jail Tour and Panel

September 26, 2013, 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Hall of Justice

The Women's Law Caucus is pleased to announce that we will again be sponsoring a jail tour and panel. This event is open to all students and will take place on September 26, 2013 at the Hall of Justice located at 600 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, Kentucky.


We will start in Courtroom 204 beginning at 5:00 where we will hear from Jefferson County Attorney, Mike O'Connell, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Kristi Gray, and a representative from the public defender's office. After they speak the floor will open up for a Q&A session.


After the Q&A we will head over to the the jail for a tour.

Keep in mind that you should dress modestly for this event. Casual dress is fine, but not shorts or short skirts or dresses. We anticipate that the event will end at 7:00pm. Keep in mind that there is no food or drink allowed in the courtroom.

Women's Law Caucus Interest Meeting

The Women's Law Caucus will be holding its first meeting on Monday, September 16 at 12:10pm in Room 275. Food will be provided on a first come, first served basis for those who attend. At this meeting we will  introduce officers, welcome new members and discuss dates for the upcoming Jail Tour, Fall T-Shirt sales, WLC luncheon and other events. Annual membership dues of $5 will be due at this time.

Jail Tour and Q&A Session

 The Women's Law Caucus and Women Lawyers Association invite any interested students to sign up for a Question & Answer session with representatives from the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, the Office of Jefferson County Attorney, and the Jefferson County Public Defender's Office followed by a tour of the Jefferson County Corrections facility. The session and tour will take place on September 5 from 5:30-7:30.
