2013 Volunteer Summer Judicial Internships

The 12th Judicial Court which is located in LaGrange in Oldham County has three summer judicial internship opportunities available in Circuit, Family and District Court for the summer of 2013.  Interns are requested to be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Position start and end dates are flexible. To apply for any of these internships, interested students should send a resume and writing sample prior to April 30, 2013, to valerieshannon@kycourts.net. Students will be able to count their hours toward their public service requirement.

A description of each of the internships is as follows:

Circuit Court:  A Summer Judicial Internship position is available for the 12th Judicial Circuit (Oldham, Henry and Trimble Counties -- Judicial offices are located in LaGrange, Oldham County). This is an unpaid internship which requires legal research, drafting and includes courtroom observation. Cases include civil cases over $5,000, personal injury cases, felony crimes and capital offenses, land title disputes, will contests and administrative appeals.

Family Court:  Summer Internship position is available for the 12th Judicial Circuit-Family Court (Oldham, Henry and Trimble Counties -- Judicial offices are located in LaGrange, Oldham County). This is an unpaid internship which requires legal research, drafting and includes courtroom observation. Cases involve Family Court proceedings including dissolution, child custody, paternity, dependency, abuse and neglect, adoptions, domestic violence and status offenses. 

District Court:  Summer Internship position is available for the 12th Judicial Circuit-District Court (Oldham, Henry and Trimble Counties -- Judicial offices are located in LaGrange, Oldham County). This is an unpaid internship which requires legal research, drafting and includes courtroom observation. Cases involve juvenile matters, traffic citations, probate and wills, mental commitments, misdemeanors, felony probable cause hearings, small claims and civil cases less than $5,000.
