Admission to the Bar - A Reminder from the Student Handbook
"As soon as possible after deciding to study law, a student is urged to investigate the rules governing admission to the bar in the state in which he or she intends to practice. The rules of many states require registration upon beginning the study of law. Compliance with bar admission requirements is the sole responsibility of the student."
If you are planning to take the bar exam in another state, please visit the National Conference of Bar Examiners website at www.ncbex.org to learn about the requirements to sit for a particular state's bar exam. Each state is different, and the requirements can change often. For example, in May 2012, the Chief Judge of New York announced a 50 hour pro bono requirement for admission to the bar in New York. The rule applies to those who are admitted on or after January 1, 2015.
