Washington State Attorney General's Office - Summer 2014 Volunteer Law Clerks
The Washington State AGO has not been funded to offer paid positions to 1L law clerks for the past several years. Nevertheless, we have found that many students benefit from a summer with us by fulfilling public service requirements and gaining invaluable first-hand legal training. We are currently accepting applications from those students who wish to serve as a volunteer. Although this program is primarily targeted towards first year law students, we also accept and encourage applications from second year and LLM law students.
Students interested in participating in this program must submit a letter of interest, completed Attorney and Law Clerk application form, resume and letter of recommendation/reference to the following by 5:00 p.m. February 5, 2014.
Washington State Attorney General’s Office, Attorney and Law Clerk Recruitment, 800 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2000, Seattle, WA 98104; E-Mail: email@example.com; Fax: 206-389-2058; Phone: (206) 464-6446
The Annual Report and required application form can be accessed via our website at http://www.atg.wa.gov/Careers/AttorneysClerks.aspx. With regards to letters of recommendation/reference, please know that it is not a requirement that the letter come from law school faculty; a letter obtained from an employer is acceptable. It can be submitted with the application material, or it can be sent directly/separately by the reference and will be accepted by mail, e-mail or fax. We’ve developed some FAQs to assist you as well.
Please be sure to indicate your division and location preferences on your application as your application material will be forwarded to the participating divisions for which you indicate an interest. Please refer to our Annual Report for more information on specific divisions. The divisions will determine who to interview and will directly contact students to set up interviews. Offers will be extended on or around March 1, 2014. Applications of those not selected for an interview or are not selected by a division with whom they have interviewed, will be retained should additional opportunities arise.
