Laura Rothstein will present the webcast on "Millennials and the ADA:  New Issues in Higher Education" on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 3:00 PM.The legal response to resolving issues applicable to students with disabilities in higher education has not changed substantially in recent years.  The enrollment of "millennials" (students who have grown up with technology and the culture that affects their generation), however, has brought new challenges to universities.  Students who want their companion ferrets to accompany them to exams and students who expect instant responses to their 3 AM emails or cell phone calls requesting unlimited time on exams present interesting new challenges.  Combining these behaviors with disability discrimination issues makes life even more interesting.   Knowing the legal requirements is only the beginning of developing a proactive approach to serving this generation of students.  The session will use a set of hypothetical scenarios to illustrate the current legal framework for examining these issues.  The session will include a discussion of policies, practices, and procedures that might help to address current situations occurring on campus. To link to this webcast and download accompanying materials visit: http://www.ilru.org/html/training/webcasts/calendar.html For instructions on how to access a webcast visit: http://www.ilru.org/html/training/webcasts/instructions.html Please visit this site ahead of time to test and ensure your computer is configured and updated to participate in the webcast. For technical assistance, please check out our FAQs or contact a webcast team member at  by email or by calling 713.520.0232. This webcast is supported through the DBTAC - Southwest ADA Center, a project of ILRU.  Southwest ADA Center is one of ten Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers (DBTACs) funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to provide training, technical assistance and materials dissemination on the ADA and other disability-related laws. NIDRR is part of the U.S. Department of Education.
