New How-To Screencasts for Computer Users

The IT department has created a series of screencasts to demonstrate how to perform numerous computing-related tasks, including:

How to connect a laptop to the University's wireless network

How to connect Windows (XP and Vista) laptops to one's Lawnet network share

Changing your Lawnet password

Updating student profile information on the School of Law Web site

Registering a new Westlaw password

Creating an e-mail alias in ULink

The screencasts are available at http://www.law.louisville.edu/it/screencasts and require a Lawnet log-in. Returning students should note that Odyssey is no longer required to connect Windows computers to the wireless network, and should watch the screencast to learn how to connect without Odyssey.

Exam4 Practice Test Deadline

The deadline to submit an Exam4 practice test this semester is 11:59 PM EDT, Friday, April 11. ALL students who wish to use Exam4 for Spring 2008 finals must submit a practice test by the deadline. Yes, this is different from the once-a-year practice test requirement in previous years when we used Securexam. The reason for the once-every-semester requirement is that we get a new version of the software every semester, not just at the beginning of the year as we did with Securexam.

Leopard & Wireless

Students with Macs who have recently upgraded OS X from Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5) are advised to update to 10.5.1, which Apple released last week. From our initial testing, it appears that this update resolves the problem with connecting to the University's wireless network and makes the connection persistent.

To update, click the Apple icon, then "Check for Updates."

USB Distribution

Every returning second-, third- and fourth-year student is entitled to receive ONE (1) 64 MB Louisville Law USB drive. First-years and Fall 2007 visiting and transfer students received theirs at Orientation. Beginning Monday, October 1, you may pick up your USB drive at the Law Library Circulation Desk anytime the library is open. You must show your Cardinal Card in order to receive the drive. What's the catch? Read the Computer Exam Procedures page. Even if you don't plan to take your exams on computer, you may still pick up a USB drive.
