Exam4 for Fall 2014 Final Exams Available Monday, Oct. 13

Exam4 for all remaining exams this semester will be available for download, installation and testing beginning Monday, October 13, 2014.  All previous versions have expired and will no longer run.  One important change for Mac users: 32-bit versions of OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) are no longer supported; 64-bit versions are supported.

Exam4 Practice Test Deadline for Legal Research Final and Contracts I Mid-Term, Hall Is Tonight!

The deadline to submit an Exam4 practice test to qualify to take the Fall 2014 Legal Research final exam and/or Professor Hall's Contracts I mid-term (ungraded) on computer is TONIGHT, Friday, September 26, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Mandatory Exam4 Training for 1Ls Is Today at 1:00 PM

In preparation for the Legal Research final exam, Saturday, October 4, the IT staff will conduct a mandatory policy and training session for 1Ls on using Exam4 today, Wednesday, September 17, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in room 275. Again, this session is required for all first-year students. Students are not required but are encouraged to bring their laptops.

This event was originally scheduled, and announced, for Thursday, Sept. 25, but due to a conflicting event, it was rescheduled several weeks ago.

From University IT: Integrated Address Books Being Restored

Good news! IT has begun the process to restore the integrated address books in both Exchange and CardMail. Over the next week you will begin to see your Exchange and CardMail address books re-populate with names from both email systems. When complete the address books will contain the names of all users who have an active university email account, including faculty, staff, students and retirees. Notification will be sent when the process has completed.

Two noticeable changes from the previous integrated address books:

  • For some individuals you will see two entries in the address books. This indicates that person has both an Exchange and CardMail account. When using the address book you should take care to select the appropriate entry.
  • Lync sessions created between CardMail and Exchange accounts will now require use of the complete email address, for example, imuserid@exchange.louisville.edu or imuserid@cardmail.louisville.edu. You will no longer be able to select entries from the address books.

Law Student Help Desk Hours

The IT Department is pleased that Lee McWhorter, a work-study student pursuing a master's degree in Computer Science at the Speed School of Engineering, will be staffing the Help Desk for law students, located outside the first floor lab in the Law Library, again this year.  Mr. McWhorter will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and provide first-tier support for:

  • Wireless networking (ulsecure)
  • Wireless printing
  • Lab computing and printing
  • Exam4 downloading, installation and basic usage

Students are reminded that the Brandeis School of Law's online Help Desk is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cardmail Forwarding Broken

Any students who have been forwarding their Cardmail account to an external email account, such as Yahoo or Gmail, must read the notice from University IT as they are no longer properly receiving email.

As part of the transition to Exchange Online Protection (EOP), Information Technology (IT) has discovered an issue affecting CardMail users. CardMail is no longer honoring forward rules to any external email system. Forwarding rules to exchange.louisville.edu are not affected.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as IT continues to work on a resolution to the issue.

 I have received further information from University IT that this issue may not be resolved any time soon and students expect to need to check their Cardmail account for the forseeable future.

About Exam4 and Student ID Numbers

In spite of training during the 1L year, regular announcements, information on our Web site, and policy, instructing students to always identify themselves on Exam4 practice tests using one's ULink user name (e.g., lhoswa01), some students continue to use their UofL Student ID Number, instead.

In the over ten years that the Brandeis School of Law has permitted students to take exams on computer, we have never required, asked or wanted students to identify themselves on any practice or real exam using student ID numbers. We never have, and we never will, so I am completely puzzled about how any student ever understood that he/she should use his/her student ID number on any electronic exam, practice or real.

Last spring, with the introduction of the app on the School of Law's Web site, which automatically sends an e-mail confirming receipt of one's valid Exam4 practice test, it became even more imperative that students submit practice tests using their ULink user names, and only their ULink user names.

The information you provide is extremely helpful for identifying software bugs or incompatibilities between Exam4 or some of its features and particular operating systems

University IT Closing Computer Repair April 30

University IT's personal computer repair service will close permanently April 30, 2014. This change only affects repair for personally purchased computer hardware. Repairs in progress will be completed, but no additional equipment will be accepted for repair after this date. Help with malware removal, passwords and other software-related issues will remain available from the iTech Connect office located on the lower level of Miller Information Technology Center (where McAlister's is located).
