Weather Policy

The law school follows the University's policies regarding weather related cancellations and delays. Please review the following as several changes [to the weather policy] have been made that will affect all of us.

The University will cancel classes up to a certain time and begin with the full class schedule at that point. For instance, if UofL delays opening until 10 a.m., all classes that begin before 10 a.m. will be canceled. Classes meeting at 10 a.m. and later will meet at their regular times and will include the full instruction period.

Second, for purposes of this policy, evening classes will be defined as any classes beginning at or after 4:30 p.m.

Third, while the University makes every effort to announce our closings through the local media, their processes can lead to confusing or sometimes wrong information.

Please note that the university will provide official school closing information in the following ways:

  • A notice at the top of UofL's home page, www.louisville.edu
  • Cell phone (if you've signed up for UofL Alert text messages)
  • E-mail (if you've signed up for UofL Alert e-mail messages)
  • Campus telephone audio/screen message
  • A recorded message at 852-5555
  • Local Media

Everyone is strongly encouraged to sign up for the University Alert System.

These are the only venues through which the University can guarantee accurate information.

Finally, whenever possible, UofL will announce decisions regarding morning classes by 6 a.m. Decisions regarding evening classes will be announced by 3 p.m.
