Join SELS along with Entertainment Lawyer and Brandeis School of Law graduate T.D. Ruth Friday April 8th at 11:45 AM in room 175. Mr.
Ruth has an extensive background as a practicing lawyer in the music
industry and will discuss strategies for breaking into the industry,
obstacles associated with the field, and an overview of the day-to-day
responsibilities associated with being an entertainment lawyer.
Mr.
Ruth is currently Senior Counsel at Lassiter, Tidwell, Davis, Keller
& Hogan in Nashville, TN. He has represented recording artists,
songwriters, producers, independent record labels and publishers in all
facets of the music industry. He most frequently represents the
interests of producers in negotiations with recording artists, recording
artists in negotiations with major record labels, and songwriters in
negotiations with major publishers. On behalf of producer clients, he
recently has negotiated with Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez, Natasha
Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, The Pussycat Dolls and Paul
Oakenfold.
Due to the high profile of many of Lassiter Tidwell’s
clients, T. D. also focuses a significant portion of his practice on
trademarks as well as rights of publicity and privacy. He has
successfully represented numerous clients before the United States
Patent and Trademark Office in pursuing trademark applications and
overcoming office actions, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in
prosecuting and defending oppositions to registration and petitions to
cancel, and has pursued many ICANN claims for the return of domain
names.
