Congratulations to Ben Shepard, FYOAC Champion!

The Moot Court
Board is thrilled to congratulate Ben Shepard on his victory in last week’s
First Year Oral Advocacy Competition!

Mr. Shepard
represented the State of Harlan in the final round of the competition. Judge Stumbo, Judge Chauvin, Judge Moore, and
Professor Cross commented on his use of precedent case law and his ability to
handle tough questions from the bench.

The judges also
complimented Petitioner Corey Shiffman on his argument, acknowledging his
excellent use of the facts and overall tone and polish in his
presentation. Both competitors faced a
very hot panel and handled questions as experienced appellate advocates.

Mr. Shepard and
Mr. Shiffman should both be very proud of their performance during the finals
and throughout the competition. Thank
you to all competitors who participated!

Additionally, thank
you to the Moot Court Board, FYOAC committee members, and especially
Michael McGee and Lacey Gullett for their help preparing for and
executing the final round of the competition. Thanks to all of you, the
competition was a success!
